Facilities
The handsomely restored farmhouse predates the 1876 lake. Built around 1852 by Charles Bingaman, a farmer and onetime grape grower, it has had many uses and names throughout its long history, such as the Visiting Nurse Association’s “Baby Farm,” and Reading Nature Center. It will continue as a nature center and education building for Berks County Parks and Recreation Department.
The slightly banked, honey-colored fieldstone structure is a 2 1/2-story, traditional Pennsylvania farmhouse with a spacious porch.
